A visit to the Deering Estate is a must for any visitor to Miami. Named after an American businessman, art collector and philanthropist Charles Deering was born in 1852. This gifted artist was the son of the founder of International Harvestor agricultural equipment.

With the taste of the good life Charles  became interested in the natural sciences and the arts. He became a benefactor in activities in Chicago, Miami and Spain. In the 1890's Charles began visiting with his father, William Deering at his winter home in Florida. In the year 1908 he purchased 212 acres of land in Miami. As the years progressed he purchased additional land along Old Cutler Road in Miami. By 1915 Charles Deering had purchased several hundred acres of land.
